Dr. Magdy Bahig Behman is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Intercultural Studies and World Religions at Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia, USA, and currently Visiting Professor at UIN, Universitas Islam Negeri, Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

As an undergraduate, he pursued Biblical studies in Jordan, and Law at Cairo University. He holds a Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies, and a Doctor of Intercultural Studies from Fuller Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, Pasadena, California, USA, with a focus on Islamic Studies, Muslim Society and the Middle East.

Dr. Behman specializes in contemporary Coptic Christianity, Islamic movements, and the history of the development of Islamic fundamentalism in the Arab world (Egypt in particular), during the 20^th and early 21^st centuries.

Dr. Behman teaches in the S2 and S3 MA program and also in the PhD program at the Graduate College of UIN.

·     Islam, contemporary movements, “Indonesian Islam,” and the impact of the Arab cultures on the formation and the development of Islamic culture and the common piety

·     Muslim societies/Arab world. Currently researching Islam and cultures in Indonesia with focus on contemporary militant Islamism and ideological radicalism in relation to “Arabism” and early “Arab Islam”

Born in Egypt, Magdy Behman is a visionary instructor, leader, and mentor with decades of experience in cross-cultural teaching both in the Middle East and the United States. Scholar of Islamic studies and World religions, with proven record in effective work and connection to the Muslim world as well as strategies and effective approaches for equipping Westerners for greater understanding of Islam.
